Pittsburgh families in their own words

Reviews from post-service luncheons and memorial gatherings we’ve catered — the kind of work we’ve been doing for 45+ years.

Debi was great. Very nice and helpful. The food was wonderful. A group of us bought this luncheon for a co-worker whose father died. The luncheon was for her family and it was such a great way for them to get together without worrying about all of the planning themselves. It was a great success and your company made it happen.

Sherry Solomon Bereavement Luncheon · Gifted by coworkers

We used them yesterday for my Mom’s Wake. Everyone loved the food, especially the roast beef — so tender and tasty. Debbie was wonderful to work with. Crystal was very nice and helpful. She delivered the food on time and set up everything very quickly. I would not hesitate to hire Cooked Goose again for any future catering needs.

Gail Gurchak Mother’s Wake

The delivery person was very courteous, respectful of the occasion, and quietly went about doing his job. Can’t thank Cooked Goose enough. Elise made this such an easy experience in such a difficult time for me and my family. Forever grateful for that.

Questions families ask

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers for the post-service luncheon or memorial gathering. If yours isn’t here, please call — we’re available to talk things through.

Can you accommodate short notice?

Yes. Funerals are typically booked with a few days’ notice, and we’ve catered post-service luncheons on as little as 24 hours when our calendar allows. Call 412-258-5944 or 724-845-6247 first thing — we’ll let you know what we can do.

Do you deliver to funeral homes and church halls?

Yes, regularly. Our drivers know most of the Pittsburgh-area funeral homes, church halls, VFW halls, and parish basements by heart. We deliver, set up, and have everything ready for the family before they arrive from the service.

What kind of food works best for a memorial luncheon?

Comfort food — the dishes that taste familiar. Our Best Seller spread is the most popular for funerals: roast beef, stuffed chicken, mac & cheese, roasted potatoes, green beans, and rolls. It feeds a crowd well, holds in chafing dishes across a long visitation window, and produces enough leftovers that the family has meals for several days after.

How much food do we need per guest?

Funeral attendance is hard to predict — some guests stay for the meal, some leave after the service. We typically plan for a bit extra so no one is short, and the family takes leftovers home. Tell us your expected guest count and we’ll size the spread sensibly.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes. We have dietary- and allergy-friendly items for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other common restrictions. Please note we cannot guarantee that cross-contamination will not occur in our facility or during transport, so guests with severe allergies should be aware.

How and when do we pay?

We require a credit card on file but prefer checks for the balance — either mailed in or given to the driver at delivery. We understand that families are managing many things at once during this time. If you need flexibility on payment timing, please ask — we’ll work with you.

Does the driver stay during the luncheon?

For drop-off catering, our driver delivers and sets up the food in chafing dishes, then leaves the family to host the meal in private. For full-service events that need a server to refresh dishes and bus tables, we can arrange that as well — just let us know during booking.

What about out-of-town family who arrive early or late?

Our chafing setup keeps food warm for about 4 hours from arrival, which usually covers the full visitation window plus arrivals from out of town. For longer windows we can add sternos or schedule a refresh. Leftovers package well for relatives staying through the weekend.

Is gratuity included?

No. Gratuity is not added automatically and is left to your discretion. Tipping is never expected, but always appreciated by the team that delivers and sets up the meal during a difficult day.
